On April 12 this year, Jupiter and Neptune will conjoin in the sign of Pisces, the first time they’ve done so since 1856. In my last article I looked at the idealistic, internationalist and sometimes illusory historical developments associated with their 13-year cycle. In this piece and some of those that follow, I’m going to make some predictions based on the trends of the past.
First, let’s take a look at the chart for the conjunction. It’s set for London:
The conjunction is taking place in the 3rd decan of Pisces. This is the last of the 36 decans of the zodiac and, as such, has a lot to do with endings. Austin Coppock, decan guru and author of 36 Faces, has called Pisces III “A bowl full of blood”. Austin is conjuring the image of medieval bloodletting here—the removal of blood from the body to restore balance. This decan is about sacrifice and the things we need to let go of in order to begin anew. It’s also about the kind of hope we have when we’ve already survived everything the world has to throw at us.
The Rider-Waite-Smith tarot card associated with Pisces III is the Ten of Cups, which contains a much more hopeful image—a happy ending:
All this chimes rather well with Jupiter-Neptune symbolism. So we can well ask: what happy ending could the conjunction be signifying? I think we’ll see an end to some of the world’s ongoing armed conflicts around this time—but I’ll explore that in another post. The ending most of the world is looking forward to is that of the COVID-19 pandemic.
For some, this may seem like too much to dream of right now. But it’s already pretty much confirmed that the Omicron strain is far less deadly than Delta and previous variants. South Africa, the first country to identify the variant, has already weathered its Omicron wave. Given that Omicron is moving through global populations extremely quickly, building immunity even among those who haven’t taken vaccines, we may be looking at a very different scenario before long.
Now, astrological prediction is difficult because there are usually multiple scenarios that fit the symbolism we’re presented with. But I think what we’ll see around the time of the conjunction is one or more of the following:
A declaration by the WHO or CDC that COVID-19 has become endemic—a predictable and manageable feature of the public health landscape
The announcement of a game-changing cure for COVID-19
A major international agreement on tackling COVID-19 or pandemics in general
Now, one might say that since Jupiter signifies expansion and Neptune can signify disease, couldn’t their conjunction point towards an expansion of the pandemic, rather than the end of it? To that, I’d say that I think the pandemic is going to end through expansion—a relatively benign expansion in the form of a far less deadly variant of the virus. Jupiter and Neptune are already copresent in Pisces, Omicron is everywhere, and perhaps by the time they conjoin, their work will be done.
On the other hand, we should also bear in mind that the combination of Jupiter and Neptune often promises more than it delivers. The 10 of Cups shows a fairytale ending, but it’s just that: the stuff of fairytales. Still, cynicism gets us nowhere. Whatever happens in April, our task will be to indulge in some hope and optimism—while keeping our heads firmly on our shoulders.
